Who is GIBLIB?

What does GIBLIB mean?

The name GIBLIB was inspired by Dr. John Heyshom Gibbon, a revolutionary surgeon and inventor of the heart-lung machine.

GIB – in honor of his name
LIB – techy shorthand for library

Before founding GIBLIB, I spent many years training surgeons to use multimillion dollar robotic surgical systems. These tools were some of the most advanced robotics in the world that were designed to perform some of the most complex procedures.

You can imagine my surprise when I saw how surgeons shared surgical videos with their peers. I painfully watched them burn DVDs, mail thumb drives to colleagues across the country, or upload videos to YouTube. I listened to frustrated residents and medical students complain about the countless hours spent scouring the internet for quality surgical videos. I knew there had to be a better way for the surgical community to collaborate.

That’s when I created GIBLIB. I wanted to create a platform for surgeons to easily share videos with other surgeons everywhere. I wanted to create a space where the surgical community could collaborate and share information on the most innovative procedures. Lastly, I wanted to create a platform 100% devoted to the surgical community.

Our Mission

We build technologies that enable surgeons to connect globally and modernize the way in which the community shares information.

A Global Need for Better Collaboration

Over five billion people lack access to safe, affordable surgical and anesthesia care when needed. There are currently 1.1 million surgeons, anesthesiologists, and obstetricians; however 2.2 million are needed by 2030. Part of meeting this need is training and educating the next generation of surgeons in underdeveloped nations. I believe GIBLIB helps by creating a platform to showcase the best and most innovative procedures for surgeons to watch anywhere in the world. GIBLIB is a small piece in a complex solution to the problem of safe, affordable surgery for all.
