(Updated 4/20/22)
Each state has its own state CME requirements to fulfill – some depend on the amount of CME you earn, others center more on your educational hours. It can be hard to keep track. Texas requires a lot of CME credits, as well as mandating that you split your credits between designated subjects. And trying to keep track of all these requirements may be tedious for you.
For your convenience, we at GIBLIB have curated your state CME required topics and credits in one blog. Now, you can fulfill some of your CME needs in one place. Review your requirements and watch videos linked below that will fulfill them. Use our easy-to-access resource to make fulfilling your requirements less of a chore.
For both Texas MD and DO physicians, you’ll need to fulfill the following:
“48 hours every 2 years; 24 must be AMA Category 1 or AOA Category 1A; 2 of those 24 hours must be on medical ethics and/or professional responsibility including, but not limited, to courses in risk management, domestic abuse or child abuse; a human trafficking prevention course must be completed as part of the medical ethics and/or professional responsibility requirement; the remaining 24 hours may be composed of informal self-study, attendance at hospital lectures, grand rounds, or case conferences not approved for formal CME, and shall be recorded in a manner that can be easily transmitted to the board upon request.
For licensees with direct patient care practice, no less than 2 hours of CME regarding safe and effective pain management related to the prescription of opioids and other controlled substances must be completed in each of the first two renewal periods following initial licensure, and every eight years thereafter. For licensees practicing in pain management clinics, licensees must complete 10 hours of CME annually in the area of pain management.” – FSMB
