What does GIBLIB mean?

The name GIBLIB was inspired by Dr. John Heyshom Gibbon, a revolutionary surgeon and inventor of the heart-lung machine.

GIB  (in honor of his name last name) + LIB (techy shorthand for library)

Registration

How do I register for GIBLIB?

When you register you can choose between a GIBLIB Free account or purchase a GIBLIB Premium subscription.
To start the GIBLIB Free account registration process: app.giblib.com/auth/register
Start the GIBLIB Premium Subscription process: app.giblib.com/auth/register/subscribe_now 

Both account types require you to go through a three-step process.

STEP 1. Provide basic user information, including:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • Profession
  • Specialty
  • Email

STEP 2. Verify your profession (see the Verification section below for more details on what is required to verify your profession).

STEP 3. Verify your email address. We will send you a confirmation email confirming you used a valid email address when registering. This is important because your email address is also your username for your GIBLIB account.

Who can register for GIBLIB?

GIBLIB is open to the following types of users from the medical community:

  • Physicians
  • Residents
  • Nursing Professionals
  • Dental Professionals
  • Students
  • Other Healthcare Professionals
  • Industry Partners (Premium Subscription only – cannot register for GIBLIB Free)

Do I have to register to use GIBLIB?

Yes. All users, whether they choose to access the site for free or pay for the Premium subscription, must register for GIBLIB.

Do I have to pay to use GIBLIB?

You only need to pay for GIBLIB if you want access to GIBLIB’s Premium content by purchasing a subscription.

You do not have to pay to watch the free curated content on GIBLIB.

Premium Subscription

What do I get with my GIBLIB subscription?

When you purchase a subscription for GIBLIB’s Premium content you get access to the following:

  • Unlimited Access to all Premium Videos
  • Unlimited Access to all Curated content
  • Access to all new content added on a weekly
  • Access to our entire library of 4k / Ultra HD medical videos
  • Access to our entire library of 360 Virtual Reality surgical videos
  • Full length cases with narration
  • GIBLIB Grand Rounds – academic lectures from experts in each specialty

How do I purchase a Premium Subscription?

If you do not currently have a GIBLIB account, you can purchase a Premium Subscription during the registration process here: app.giblib.com/auth/register/subscribe_now.

If you already have a GIBLIB account you must log into your account first. Then click on a premium video and you will see a Premium Content notification on the video window. Click the purchase button to complete the purchase process.

How much does a subscription cost?

A Premium Subscription costs $49.99 per month. It can be purchased during the registration process or once you have logged in to your GIBLIB Free account. Premium Subscriptions auto renew at the end of each 30-day cycle from the date you originally purchase the subscription.

Can I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription at any time. However, we do not provide prorated refunds of your subscription.

What happens when I cancel my subscription?

Once you decide to cancel your subscription you will be given access for the remaining time left on your subscription. Your account will no longer renew the subscription at the end of the month. Your account will revert to a standard free account and you will lose access to GIBILB’s Premium content.

Verification

Why do I have to submit verification documentation when I register?

GIBLIB is an educational platform for healthcare professionals. We verify our users to ensure the protection of our community.

What information do I need to provide during the verification process?

During the second stage of our registration process, we verify the profession of each user. The type of verification information we require during the registration process depends on your profession. We verify the profession of each user during the registration process regardless of whether they register for a free or purchase a premium subscription.

The GIBLIB User team manually reviews all documentation provided during the verification process to prevent users from falsifying their professional credentials. Our team will ban users if we find that they provided false, inadequate, or unreadable documentation during the verification process.

A team member will email you if you are banned so you can provide supplemental documentation to regain access. If you have any questions about the verification process, you can Contact Us directly.

The verification requirements for each account type include:

  • Physicians & Residents
    • ONE of the following:
  • Nursing Professionals
  • Dental Professionals
    • Photo your institutional ID badge (for USA & International Account verification)
  • Other Healthcare Professionals
    • Photo your institutional ID badge (for USA & International Account verification)
  • Students
    • ONE of the following:
      • Photo of your Student ID (for USA & International Account verification)
      • Photo of your School Transcript (for USA & International Account verification)
      • Photo of your School Acceptance Letter (for USA & International Account verification)
  • Industry Partners
    • Your Title
    • Your Company Name
    • Your Company Email Address
    • *Note: Industry partners are required to purchase a Premium subscription in order to access GIBLIB.*

Does GIBLIB ban users?

Yes. Our User Team will ban a user if we find that they have provided false, inadequate, or unreadable documentation during the verification process. We contact each member we ban and allow users to provide new documentation to regain access.

We also ban users if there is a violation of our terms of use.

What can I do if my account was banned?

If your account is banned, you can contact us directly at contact@giblib.com or open a chat window in the right-hand corner of the browser window. Please provide your full name and email address in all emails.

Account Issues

I went through the registration process, but I can’t log in. What’s wrong with my account?

You may still need to verify your email. If you did not receive a verification email, check your spam folder. You can also contact us directly at contact@giblib.com.

Your account may be banned because you did not pass the verification requirements.

How do I reset my password?

You can reset your password at: app.giblib.com/auth/forgot-password

Note: GIBLIB team members do not have access to individual user password. Because of this, if you have forgotten your password, you will need to reset your password using the link above.

How do I upload a profile photo?

Log into GIBLIB and go to “My Profile” by clicking on your user icon in the top right-hand corner of your window. Click on the “Edit Image” button on the top right hand corner of your profile page to update your profile picture.

How do I change my email address?

You must contact our User Team in order to change the email you used to register. You can email us at: contact@giblib.com.

How do I finish the registration process if I didn’t get a verification email?

First, check your SPAM filter or Junk folder in your email client as our verification email may have been blocked by your email service. If you still cannot find the verification email, you can email us at: contact@giblib.com. Please include your first and last name in the email.

To have your verification email resent, go to app.giblib.com/auth/login and put in the email address and password you submitted when you registered. A new email verification email will be sent.

Videos

What is 360-degree Virtual Reality (360VR)?

360VR is a new technology that allows us to capture the operating room in an immersive experience.

What is the benefit of 360VR?

These types of videos immerses you, the viewer, inside of the operating room as if you were actually there. You are able to choose your own point-of-view (POV).

How often does GIBLIB update its content?

For GIBLIB Premium users, we release new content on a weekly basis. These include full-length surgical procedures as well as medical lectures, conference sessions, and grand rounds. Each week we notify users of new content by email.

For GIBLIB Free users we update curated content on a quarterly basis.

How do I watch the 360VR videos on my VR headset (i.e. Samsung Gear VR, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift)?

We currently only offer this capability to our institutional partners. If you are interested in learning more, visit: giblib.com/partner

What is considered GIBLIB Premium content?

Premium content are surgical videos and medical lectures, referred to as GIBLIB grand rounds, that were created by GIBLIB’s Content Production Team. These videos use the highest production standards and use the latest video technologies, such as 4k/Ultra HD and 360-degree Virtual Reality (360VR). The content was hand-picked by GIBLIB, and its medical advisory team, for its superior educational value.

What is considered GIBLIB Free, or curated, content?

GIBLIB regularly sources, or curates, videos from across the internet for use on our platform. We do this to provide a valuable resource to those who do not want to waste time searching for good quality surgical videos. This content is not produced by GIBLIB and we have sourced it with the permission of the author or we have sourced it within the restrictions of the sourcing entity. These videos are available free to watch for GIBLIB users who have not purchased a Premium subscription.

What specialties do your videos cover?

Our current library includes videos from a variety of major specialties. We may at any point add or remove videos from a specialty. We may also add specialties as our library of videos expands.
